The consequences of the institutionalization of the senior in residential facility

This diplomawork "The consequences of the institutionalization of the senior in residential facility" is based on a comarationof a researchamong two senior groups - living in his or her own homeenvironmentor in residentialinstitutional facility. The theoretic part consists of fore chapters: Ageing, Health as a Value, A Work with Seniors in Different Environment, The Impact of institutionalization on Seniors. A literary analysis of studied scholarly literature is based on the diploma work task, taking the practical needs into its account. The main general goal of a research part is to evaluate a perception of ageing. The main general goal of the research part is to survey the perception of ageing, risks and limitations related to overcome from home to institution percieved by seniors coupled with possible pros and cons. I used a questionnaire for my research. During the data acqusition I was influenced by my long practise with seniors in residential facility and my personal interest in the issue of fundamental change in senior's life.

The thesis consists of two main parts- theoretical-review and empirical. The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of geriatric age and describes the age-related changes, with which this developmental phase is related to. It also describes dynamical alterations in human needs hierarchy during aging, which are inherently related to changes in old age. It shows the possibilities of care for seniors and role of social institutions in the past and present. In general, the theoretical part characterizes the notion: "well-being" and focuses primarily on the quality of life of seniors. Aspect of quality of life of seniors with dementia in senior homes

The thesis deals with the quality of life of seniors suffering from dementia, living in homes for seniors. The aim was to determine whether the quality of life of seniors depends on the intensity of the contact with close people and if this phenomenon is more evident in men than in women. The thesis is divided into two sections. In the theoretical section the issues concerning dementia conditions, the social services provision and the quality of life are described using articles in professional books, journals and web-published resources. In the practical part the quantitative research, conducted by the standardized questionnaire SF-36, identifying the health-conditioned quality of life, and the questionnaire "CONTACT" identifying the frequency of four types of contact, is presented.
